Fractional Chief AI Officer (CAIO)
AI is becoming a powerful means for transformation and disruption. A billion users are using some application of AI in their personal usage - seeking information and answers, conversing with an AI agent, creating content, making websites and apps, and attempting some agentic uses. When AI is applied in enterprise processes, the complexity of usage and safeguards increases multifold. Enterprises are under pressure to work on AI and leverage it to their advantage. Enterprises are also acutely aware of the disruption that AI can create for specific functions and roles and the changes that this will bring into the organization.
The CAIO is a specialized role that brings in multi-disciplinary expertise and provides a broad vision and approach to AI for the enterprise. There have been discussions about the need for a CAIO and if AI can be an additional task for a CTO or CIO. Enterprises worldwide are preferring to institute the position of a CAIO to holistically approach the use and safety of AI along with the technologies and data needed.
